My Pregnancy….25 weeks ish??
April 23, 2010
This is my 3rd pregnancy, possibly my last and definitely my most complicated pregnancy as well. I delivered via c-section my first pregnancy, my second and have no other choice this time either. My choices in doctor’s is very limited due to insurance and I wasn’t able to find a doctor that’d be willing to try for a v-back. But now after all the complications have arisen, I doubt ANY would let me.
I think my pregnancy is a big drive in why I want everything to be organized, cleaned etc. but I also think it is a big reason a lot has not been done. Talk about exhaustion anyone? Everyone says every pregnancy is different and that is very true for me. I don’t think I’ve been more tired in my life. Well, maybe. Any way. I had a few weeks where my energy slightly increased but I feel it’s on a downward spiral again. Probably 5 out of 7 days a week I am taking a nap when my youngsters do. Oh did I mention that I have two toddlers? Yes, their another exhaustion contributor haha.
Right now we are dealing with Gestational Diabetes that is having to be medicated. Right now I am on an oral medication but probably next week will be going on to insulin. Just the vibe I’m getting from the docs. I also have a low lying placenta. It’s not directly over my cervix but about 1/2 inch from it according to the ultrasound. Which if it doesn’t ‘move’ with my belly would be the number one reason why I am not a v-back candidate. If I was to have a vaginal birth with a low lying placenta it is highly possible for as the baby is pushed the placenta to rip off the wall, detach from the umbilical cord and for baby to bleed out. Not good. C-Section, PLEASE, if that is the case.
I notice a lot on the blogosphere that many many Mothers prefer to go with unmedicated, natural births. For me, this is not a huge concern of mine. I’ve never had complications with my children because of medication such as an epidural or a spinal tap (I’ve had both). And neither of them we’re drowsy or incoherent like some say they are. I’m sure there are cases where this is true but I have yet to see it and I’ve seen naturally delivered and medicated delivered babies. Maybe I’m just tired of feeling ‘guilty’ for having medicated deliveries when so many blogs talk about how much better it is to have a non-medicated delivery. I do have a hunch that if I did not opt for the epidural I would not of had a c-section with my first daughter however that story is for another day. There we’re a lot of complications at the end with her (Pre-eclampsia, fetal distress, not dialating after 24 hours etc.).
There is also the big debate of whether or not to breast feed, exclusively pump or formula feed. I formula fed my first as I was so un-read about breast feeding that I hadn’t the slightest clue where to begin. However, I do not feel guilty. She is as smart as a whip and the last in the house to catch a cold. She has energy like no other and is quite possibly one of the smartest 3 year olds I know (Okay, I’m biased, but still). My 2 year old I did breast feed. I breast fed her for 3 months before switching to formula. I went through a lot of trauma of not knowing if she had enough, she was jaundice and really, there was no reason to quit except it ended up emotionally and mentally being better for my family. And I see no health difference with her either. And her birth story will be saved for another day as well, haha.
So there are a lot of things to be considered and quite a few things that need to be purchased as well. Such as this is a summer baby, my girl’s we’re both winter babies, slight change in attire for newborn is needed. While we have a few things left from our previous two daughter’s, the basement in the house we are renting, we discovered has high moisture. Both the car-seat and bouncer are not looking to good. This weekend the hubby and I are going to pull them out and see if we can save them. If they are saveable, we won’t have to purchase those. Nor are we purchasing a stroller since we already have a double. Receiving blankets and burp clothes are taken care of as well. Right now as far as we know, all we need is some clothes, bottles, pacifiers, bottle brush and very basic necessities including diapers (haven’t decided to go cloth or disposable, always have done disposable diapers). We do have a crib that we need to see if we can save or not as well as a mattress that is in good condition. And I’m currently working on convincing the hubby to go second hand with some things but so far he’s been stubborn to go for new since both of our girl’s had a lot of second-hand items. Oy vei!
